Just after World War II, six young men from OSU began
“hanging out” together practicing roping and riding: Clem
McSpadden, Leo Roberts, Larry Kilgore, Harold Emery, Buddy
Reger and Turner Meadors. Their competition in rodeo events
launched the Club. Since then, over nearly six decades, the
Association has included 2000 members, including some of
the biggest names in college and professional rodeo.

Prior to the "Ride for the Brand" OSU Ranch Rodeo, each past
and present member of the OSU Rodeo Team had to be in
complete agreement in order for Wendell to be given one of
the prestigious OSU Rodeo Jacket only worn by members of
the Rodeo Organization.  The Rodeo Team voted unanimously
to present him with this award and recognition.

Wendell has donated his time in announcing this rodeo for a
number of years, and was surprised by the ceremony and
presentation of the jacket during the intermission of the Ranch
Rodeo. In addition to his long-term relationship with the Rodeo
Association, he served as "Pistol Pete" during his student days
at OSU, and has been active in the

    One of Wendell's first
    official appearances as a
    member of the coveted
    group came on October
    14, 2007, where the OSU
    Rodeo Association
    represented the past,
    present, and future of
    rodeo in Oklahoma at the
    Oklahoma Centennial
    Parade, said to be the
    largest celebration of its
    kind in the state's history.

Estimated crowds of 175,000 lined Oklahoma City for the parade, with Miss America 2007
Lauren Nelson and Oscar-nominated actor James Garner serving as grand marshals.

Amid the pageantry and patriotism on display, the OSU Rodeo Association were proud
ambassadors of the sport of Rodeo as they continued their historic "Ride for the Brand."
