| John Coleman founded The Weather Channel, serving as its first CEO and President during the network's startup. Before starting the Weather Channel, John worked as weathercaster for WCIA-TV (Champaign, Illinois), WMBD-TV (Peoria), KETV (Omaha), WISN-TV (Milwaukee), WBBM-TV and WLS-TV (both in Chicago). At the later, he helped established the amusing and irreverent "happy talk" news format that has since been widely copied, enroute to dominating Chicago's news ratings for more than a decade. He became the original weathercaster on the brand-new ABC network morning program, Good Morning America, staying a decade with the top-rated program anchored by David Hartman and Joan Lunden. After founding The Weather Channel, he served at WCBS-TV (New York) and WMAQ-TV (Chicago), before moving to Southern California. Presently he works as an on-camera weathercaster for KUSI-TV in San Diego, in what he fondly calls "my retirement job." |
